Germany's 1&1 began offering its 5G services via FWA in Frankfurt and Karlsruhe in 2022. But the firm has been criticized for its reliance on other carriers -- specifically Telefonica Germany and Vodafone. 1&1 blamed the latter for allegedly failing to live up to agreed-on terms for sharing up to 3,800 antenna sites by 2023, according to published reports, which indicate that an investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, the OpenRAN network created with Rakuten Symphony and Mavenir debuted in December 2023, offering services throughout Germany.

On the Q1 2024 earnings call CEO John Stankey said "I don't expect that we are going to be pushing the [Internet Air] product the same way that some others in the market are pushing it today. From press materials: "In April 2022 Batelco signed an MOU with Ericsson to collaborate on Voice over New Radio (NR) and advanced Charging System that will enhance Batelcos real-time convergent charging as well as enable the introduction of new smart and innovative Internet of Things (IoT) products. It will also include cloud-native 5G Core and 5G Standalone (SA) solutions that helped Batelco and Ericsson successfully complete the first 5G SA data call in the Kingdom.Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) will also be a key area of focus for Batelco and Ericsson as they enable extended coverage and longer battery lives for ultra-low complexity devices. Batelcos and Ericssons exploration of NB-IoT will propel smart city visions with features such as smart metering, air quality monitoring, and building management seen having a significant impact on smart city development. The MoU is also set to lay the foundation for 5G millimeter wave (mmWave) introduction which, through its higher bandwidth, higher data rates and extended range capabilities, offers great potential for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), gaming, and industry applications."

In June 2022 Betacom announced its selection by Google to accelerate delivery of private 5G networks in the U.S. through the newly announced Google Private Networks Solutions Portfolio, built on Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) Edge. These joint efforts will advance enterprise deployment of technologies that power Industry 4.0. In September 2023 Betacom announced a hybrid service with UScellular. The two claimed a first in the annals of private CBRS networking because they offer single SIM authentication for the service, which establishes virtual private networks (VPNs) between the private network islands connected by UScellular services. Data traffic just switches over from one network to the other without interruption. Also, in the case of a CBRS outage, traffic automatically fails over to the cellular network. In October 2023, Betacom also announced AirGap Protection, which uses a combination of traffic segregation, 3GPP tunneling, encryption, and access controls to "air gap" or isolate private 4G/5G traffic from an enterprises existing IT infrastructure.

Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) is a wholesale carrier selling to MVNO retailers, including CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Telekom Malaysia, and YTL Power International. As of April 2024, the company's 5G network had reached 81.5% of the total populated areas of Malaysia. Reportedly, of the total number of 5G subscriptions, there are 12.7 million individual users and 422,609 enterprises. DNB's coverage has triggered a national mandate for the retailers to purchase shares in DNB, thereby setting up the country's potential second 5G network.

All other states are in various stages of deployment and, together with the aforementioned states, are expected to achieve full network deployment in 2024, if not earlier.

5G is available from Freedom Mobile to 12 million Canadians in the Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton metro areas as well as in other selected cities across Ontario, BC, and Alberta.
|
Freedom Mobile's 5G was mandated as a condition of Rogers Communications takeover of Shaw Communications, which owned Freedom. Freedom's new owner Videotron must comply with low-cost plans as well as a $150 million upgrade to Freedom Mobile's network.
|
|
Freedom Mobile's 5G was actually mandated. Freedom was bought by Videotron for $2.85 billion in April 2023. The acquisition took place because in order for Rogers Communications to take over Shaw Communications, Shaw had to agree to sell Freedom Mobile. As part of conditions laid out by Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne in March, Videotron must offer plans that are at least 20 per cent lower than those of its competitors and spend $150 million to upgrade Freedom Mobiles network.

As with Telefonica's other LATAM subsidiaries (part of Telefonica Hispanoamerca, or HISPAM), 5G services from Telefonica Chile have been rolled out slowly and relatively late compared to rollouts in other parts of the globe. While delays have been in part due to absence of adequate spectrum, the speed of 5G evolution should be accelerated to realize 5G ambitions now that spectrum purchases are finalized.

The goal is for the network to serve as an open platform available to local businesses, government, and educational institutions for deploying innovative solutions that enrich the lives of citizens and visitors to Las Vegas. NTT is working with partners to more than double the number of network access points (APs) throughout Las Vegas. Unlike most Citizens Broadband Radio Spectrum (CBRS) deployments, which are in-building or industrial, this network extends across public spaces. Its also the first network of its size to be open to third-party APs and end-user devices.

Telecom Argentina |
1 December 2023 |

Telecom Argentina has released a 5G standalone 3.5-GHz network in high-concentration areas of the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. In 240 sites nationwide, the telco offers 5 via Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) technologies.

There is 3.5-GHz 5G in Buenos Aires metro area, and DSS-based 5G in cities nationwide.
|
Telecom Argentina claims to have been the first telco to provide 5G in the country, though that was via shared spectrum. Now it's offering 3.5-GHz service but only in Buenos Aires. There appears to be a slow rollout favoring one major city, which could hinder development of the country's 5G ambitions.

Federated Wireless provides turnkey "as a service" 4G and 5G networks using CBRS spectrum. Customers order the service over the AWS Marketplace by defining their use case requirements and the location of their first deployment. Their first private wireless node is installed and onboarded with their initial connected devices and applications, fully operational in as little as two weeks, the vendor says. Once the private wireless network is up and running, customers scale connectivity for covering larger areas, adding users, or launching new applications and devices.

But we're also deploying a 5G hybrid network solution at their Atlanta headquarters, which we're really excited about. Also the U.S. Coast Guard is working with us build out a private network to deliver seamless secure connectivity from ship to shore. And then with Ericsson, not only as a strategic partner, but we're also working with them to deploy our first network slice on a SIM-based SASE solution within a 5G connected laptop.
